Polish Qualifications Framework

The new framework of higher education has been introduced at CUE since the academic year 2012/2013. According to it students achieve some learning outcomes after a period of time, or in other words, they acquire certain competences:

  • knowledge – a set of descriptions of facts, principles, theories and practices assimilated during the learning process, relating to a field of learning or professional activity,

  • skills - the ability to carry out tasks and solve problems related to the relevant field of learning or professional activity,

  • social competence - the ability to shape one’s own development, as well as the autonomous and responsible participation in professional life and society, taking into account the ethical context of one’s own behaviour.

Study regulations

All students are obliged to follow the study regulations. The regulations include crucial information about students’ rights and obligations, grading and courses completing, diploma dissertation and examination, etc.

CUE University Antiplagiarism System verifies texts written in Polish as well as the other languages, including those written with different alphabets. Such documents are compared against the global Internet resources, as well as against documents added to the University's internal database, and the other thesis submitted at the Universities participating in the Database Exchange Program.

Scholarships

The manner of awarding scholarships for foreign students attending regular programmes at the University is regulated by Art. 43 of the Higher Education Act.

Eligibility for scholarships depends on student’s admission and current study conditions of student’s programme.

Foreign students who attend programmes in compliance with the conditions set forth for Polish citizens are entitled to apply for social grants, special disability grants, the Rector’s best student grants, the Ministry’s achievement grants as well as emergency grants. The exception are EU, Swiss or EFTA citizens who possess sufficient financial resources to cover their living expenses while attending University programmes are subject to the conditions set forth for Polish citizens, but they may apply solely for the Rector’s grants for best students.

Foreigners, holders of the valid Cards of the Pole, admitted in compliance with the conditions for Polish citizens, may apply for social grants, special grants for persons with disabilities, Rector’s and Minister’s grants as well as emergency grants.

They may also attend programmes according to different principles than those for Polish citizens – as foreigners who pay a fee for tuition, as winners of Polish scholarships, pursuant to international agreements, the rector’s or minister’s decisions, without tuition payments and scholarship benefits, pursuant to inter-university agreements, etc. In such cases eligibility for grants is individually determined by BUWiWM, a foreign party or relevant agreements.

Foreign languages

Bachelor students are obliged to take 2 foreign languages courses: the first language is English and the second can be chosen from the languages offered by the Foreign Language Institute (German, French, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin) or Polish offered by IPO.

To sign up for foreign language classes students need to sit a placement test (before the first semester starts). The test is available on the Virtual Dean’s Office (click SJO).

NOTE: foreign students, who don’t speak Polish, are advised to choose the second language (German, French, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin) on more advanced level or to take Polish language classes. The very basic language courses (German, French, Russian, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin) may be conducted in Polish.
Foreign Language Institute

Polish language classes are offered for all international students and the language of instructions is English. Interested students are asked to fill in the form and contact IPO.

Physical Education

PE classes are obligatory for all students, they are planned for 2 semesters (30h/semester) on the first year of studies. The schedule is available on the Sports Institute webpage. Students can sign up for a selected sport during their first PE class at the start of the academic year. It is advisable to choose several different classes to get a feel for what is the best choice. It is important to do it during the first week of classes – the number of places may be limited.

Students who cannot participate in PE classes due to health reasons, need to provide a medical certificate. In order to do it they have to be examined by a medical board  - University’s referral is required, so please contact the Sports Institute or IPO. The medical board will decide how to replace sport classes. There are 3 possibilities:

  • swimming rehabilitation
  • walking trips (Krakow and neighbourhood)
  • extra lectures (in case when student cannot do any sport).

Obligatory internship

Bachelor students are obliged to do a mandatory internship by the end of the 4th semester. It should last minimum 3 weeks. Students can do an internship in any company/institution (Polish or foreign), but the internship should be connected with one’s field of studies. They can find any internship on their own or they can also contact the Student Career Center - they have some database with internships available.

Internship supervisors have been appointed to help students with the internship’s agreement and report:
